Cuba is a a very unique and wonderful island country in the Caribbean Sea, with a rich history and culture. Originally home to the Taino people, Cuba was taken over by Spanish "conquistadors" in the 15th century, and became part of the Spanish Empire. During this time, thousands of African slaves were also brought from West Africa, and today their descendants make up Cuba's people, along with the descendants of Taino and Spanish people. Cuba is a mosaic of different cultures! During Cuba's modern history, it gained independence from Spain (1902), experienced a revolution (1959), and was governed by Fidel Castro for several decades, and Cuban people's freedom was limited. Today, Cuba is experiencing somewhat of an "opening", where Cuban people are slowly gaining more freedom.
