Brazil: The Heart of South America By:Hector.A

Brazil, the largest country in South America, has a beautiful geography that includes the Amazon rainforest, and beautiful beaches along its large coastline. The Amazon is home to a rich variety of animals and plant life. Brazil's cultural heritage is a colorful blend of indigenous traditions.

Famous sports in Brazil are football, volleyball, footvolley, Jiu-jitsu and  MMA. These are the famous sports in Brazil. Brazilian football is not just a sport, it's a way of life. The passion for football goes deep in the veins of every Brazilian. Brazil is the ONLY country until now to win the World Cup five times! People say that “In Brazil children are born with a soccer ball” because Brazil makes the best soccer players of all time, like: Pele, Ronaldinho, Neymar. “The Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro is a site for Football hosting historical matches that have become legendary in the World of Football.” (source: britannica

Brazil is a very Catholic country. 65% of Brazilians are Catholic. Being Catholic is part of our Brazilian culture. Our cultural habits received influences from indigenous, African, Portuguese, Spanish, peoples, among others, due to colonization, immigration and to the people who already lived here. “Characteristic elements of Brazilian culture are popular music, literature, cuisine, traditional national festivals, such as Carnival, and traditional local festivals, such as the  Samba runs through the streets while Carnival celebrations bring communities together”. (source: Britannica online). Brazil has some of the world's most beautiful  beaches in the world.-two of the most famous are Ipanema and Copacabana beaches in Rio de Janeiro.

Let’s talk about the Amazon rainforest, which is one of the most important places on Earth. The bad part of Brazil is that people are burning down the Amazon rainforest, and 78 million acres are lost every year.  Over 200,000 acres of rainforest are burned every day! That is over 150 acres lost every minute of every day! “The latest data in the Brazilian Amazon rainforest show a 34% increase in deforestation since 1992.” (source: Britannica online).

Overall, Brazil is definitely a place you should visit because we have beautiful beaches and a variety of animals and the wonderful rainforest also almost every day we have beautiful soccer matches.

Cuba! by Ms. Donoghue

Cuba is a a very unique and wonderful island country in the Caribbean Sea, with a rich history and culture. Originally home to the Taino people, Cuba was taken over by Spanish "conquistadors" in the 15th century, and became part of the Spanish Empire. During this time, thousands of African slaves were also brought from West Africa, and today their descendants make up Cuba's people, along with the descendants of Taino and Spanish people. Cuba is a mosaic of different cultures! During Cuba's modern history, it gained independence from Spain (1902), experienced a revolution (1959), and was governed by Fidel Castro for several decades, and Cuban people's freedom was limited. Today, Cuba is experiencing somewhat of an "opening", where Cuban people are slowly gaining more freedom. Cuba also has a strong education system, it has a literacy rate of 99.8% and over 4,000 libraries (source  Explore Cuba , by Peggy Snow). There are so many amazing things to experien...
