Haiti, by Cliphane

Haiti has a very interesting history. There were a million Arawaks when the Europeans arrived. The Arawaks were the first tribe in Haiti. Before 1492, there were more than a million  Arawaks who lived on the island. They were almost all killed by 1600.

Gaining Independence for Haiti was not easy, it took a lot of work. In 1804, Haiti got independence from France. This means that Haiti was the 1st free country led by African black people.

Today, Haiti is a country with challenges. Some of this is because  Haiti had to pay a  big payment of 150 million francs to France and some more money to America. Haiti was the first country in the world to make slavery illegal. Haiti has a very interesting history.

Originally home to the Taino people, Cuba was taken over by Spanish "conquistadors" in the 15th century, and became part of the Spanish Empire. During this time, thousands of African slaves were also brought from West Africa, and today their descendants make up Cuba's people, along with the descendants of Taino and Spanish people. Cuba also has a strong education system, it has a literacy rate of 99.8% and over 4,000 libraries (source  Explore Cuba , by Peggy Snow). There are so many amazing things to experien...
